Roughly 30 minutes from Pretoria, virtually on the border with the North West Province, the little town of Hammanskraal lies just off the N1; the R101 runs directly through it. An added attraction is the Carousel Casino just off the N1 closer to Bela Bela, a little further north of Hammanskraal, which brings a further type of visitor out this way.
To the east of Hammanskraal is the region of Dinokeng, a relatively new tourist region that means “a place of rivers” and refers to the two major rivers, the Olifants and the Limpopo, that run through here. That this is a beautiful part of the country is uncontested. The real draw card is the incredible scenery and the access to several game reserves and conservancies, all restocked with game with the potential to form a large Big Five game reserve in future.
