Morukuru Beach Lodge

Morukuru Beach Lodge is located in one of Africa’s most stunning coastal reserves, the De Hoop Nature Reserve, just south of Swellendam along the Garden Route in the Overberg region in South Africa. The Overberg has very beautiful small towns, a rapidly growing wine industry and delicious local dishes. The reserve has a 19 km vlei (wetland) , which is included on the Ramsar list of Wetlands of International Importance, founded by UNESCO. De Hoop Nature Reserve also has beautiful white sand dunes lapped by the Indian Ocean, limestone cliffs, rock pools and coastal fynbos. Their sister property Morukuru Ocean House is located approximately 1 km further east along the beach.

  • The best!

This has to be the best lodge we have ever stayed at. Everything from the room to the food to the excursions were superb. The attention to detail, amazing! The fragrance around the hotel is what made this stay unforgettable. A special thank you to Nicholas and Blessing for the great service and to all the managers who were so friendly and accommodating.

Morukuru Beach Lodge impact highlights

Conservation and contributing to the development of local communities is key to Morukuru Family. Both Morukuru Ocean House and Morukuru Beach Lodge have been built in an environemntally frinedly way, operating fully off-grid, using a combination of solar power and pellet burners only for electricity and hot water supply. Over the years Morukuru Family have invested in nature conservation in De Hoop in numerous ways, including alien species removal employing staff from the local community, to protect and preserve the fragile fynbos eco-system.
